#Maman

TOKYO, JAPAN

Louise Bourgeois’ striking Maman sculptures have been installed and exhibited globally since their inception in 1999. This monumental arachnid, which stands over 30 feet tall and 33 feet wide, evokes the protective and nurturing nature of motherhood through its allusions to weaving, spinning, and fertility. Originally cast in stainless steel, several editions of Maman were created in subsequent years. In 2003, our Rock Tavern team was fortunate enough to be tasked with producing a full-scale edition in patinated bronze.
