#Bent Pool

MIAMI, USA

Internationally acclaimed art duo Elmgreen & Dragset have been collaborating on architectural and sculptural installations since 1995. The pair have exhibited extensively throughout their 25-year partnership, transforming public spaces with unlikely, thought-provoking and witty art interventions.

Located outside the Miami Beach Convention Center, Bent Pool continues Elmgreen & Dragset’s exploration of the swimming pool motif, distorting the form of an empty swimming pool into an inverted u-shaped arch. Supported by a two-tier plinth the work stands at 6m tall and is painted in a vivid aqua and a pristine white.

UAP’s Rock Tavern foundry utilized a combination of sand casting and fabrication techniques to build the different elements, which were then assembled and completed in a gloss finish.

Swimming pools are woven into the very fabric of Miami Beach. What they represent is actually something in danger of becoming frivolous, rather than remaining iconic.
