#Lightness of Air

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA

Belinda Smith’s suspended work Lightness of Air evokes childhood memories of blowing dandelions into the breeze, symbolizing the possibilities that the future holds. Installed within Brisbane’s Skygate development, this work is suspended from the elliptical opening in the architecture, the delicate sculpture has presence in the space without impeding the quality of light passing through it.

Skygate, the first fully integrated airport development of its kind in the world, incorporates business, retail, sport, entertainment and leisure in one complex spanning over 80 hectares within Brisbane Airport City. Four artists were commissioned to create works for the precinct, each work aptly sited to maximize the pedestrian experience.
