Theresa Chromati

Theresa Chromati is a talented Guyanese American artist who works with different media such as painting, collage, glitter, vinyl plastics, silk fabric and cotton. Her art celebrates the strength and unity of black women, showcasing their daily lives and experiences. She believes that portraying the reality of black women's lives is more important than challenging stereotypes or making a statement with her work.

In works such as Reclining Woman (Wig Connection) (2017), Chromati addresses the rules enforced on women, while exploring the available experiences for women in the private and public space. Her paintings have been featured in the New York Times, i-D, Interview Magazine, and Hyperallergic. Her work is in collections that include the Nasher Museum of Art, Pérez Art Museum Miami, and Baltimore Museum of Art. She received her BFA from the Pratt Institute.
