#Morpheus Hotel Dining Pods
MACAU, CHINA
The Morpheus Hotel designed by Zaha Hadid Architects is the new flagship hotel for the City of Dreams development in Macau, China. The $1 Billion development is characterized by a distinctive exoskeleton and uninterrupted internal spaces.
UAP worked with Zaha Hadid Architects to explore and assist in the design development and fabrication methods for a series of internal sculptural dining pods. Five unique pods (a total of 9 delivered) were designed to delineate the private dining spaces within the high traffic atrium which overlooks Macau through the perforated exoskeleton.
Utilizing a range of fabrication methods, the design ensures that the exterior surface of the pods creates a highly textured and rhythmic patternation of coloured blades. Each individual blade is connected back to the main structure and allows a 360 degree pivot to provide the desired sculptural effect.
Viewers moving past the work are offered fleeting glimpses into the interior of
the
pod, whilst the blades orientated at multiple angles provide a discreet
space within. The internal skin of the pods are clad in a light coloured
leather creating a warm and intimate space for diners to relax and soak in the surrounding
architecture and environment.
