Benjamin Storch

Australian artist Benjamin Storch has spent the last decade exploring forms based on dynamic ‘orbital’ curves. Storch was initially inspired by a series of diagrams drawn by a device recording the interaction of two pendulums, which created a ribbon-like form whilst retaining a sense of rhythm and symmetry.

Dream Heart is a continuation into Storch’s exploration into dynamic forms. This work was commissioned by Lingang Group for the new Shanghai Lingang Tech City development. Dream Heart was conceived in response to the curatorial vision, developed for the site by UAP’s consultancy team, “all rivers run into the sea”. The work’s dynamic and undulating form speaks to the values of the site: openness, inclusiveness, and diversity.

Standing just over three meters tall, Dream Heart was made in UAP’s Shanghai workshop using panel beaten stainless steel. This work was commissioned as a result of a public art masterplan and strategy developed for Lingang Group.
