#Lucky Break
LOS ANGELES, USA
Downtown Los Angeles boasts an iconic public sculpture called 'Lucky Break'. The sculpture is located in the South Park Commons on Grand and 11th. It stands at 24 feet tall and is shaped like a wishbone. The sculpture was commissioned by the Mack Real Estate Group, who wanted something amazing for their new public park.
The wishbone symbolizes the promise of good luck, and the saying "get a lucky break" comes from this tradition. Los Angeles is known as the City of Angels but also the City of Dreams. Everyone who moves to LA hopes to catch their dream. 'Lucky Break invites you to make a wish and perhaps catch your lucky break.
This artwork took two years to create and started with a 3D rendering that was printed and cast at our Rock Tavern foundry in upstate New York. The 'Lucky Break' sculpture was hand-cast in multiple sections of aluminium that were welded together and engineered to fit precisely into the site's foundation. After it was painted and cured, the sculpture was driven across the country to its new home.
Wishbone symbolizes the promise of good luck. The saying "get a lucky break" comes from this tradition. Los Angeles may be the City of Angels, but it's also the city of dreams. I invite you to visit 'Lucky Break' and make a wish.
