One Museum Place

#One Museum Place Public Art Strategy

SHANGHAI, CHINA

Under the Guiding Vision of Reflect/Reinvent, the curatorial narrative for Hines One Museum Place takes inspiration from the vitality and place story of Shanghai’s historic Jing’an District. Long celebrated as the cultural core of the city, the Vision revolves around the immersive journey through time & place from Shikumen, to the adjacent Jing’an Sculpture Park to the new One Museum Place office and retail development.

Reflect/Reinvent inspires a site-wide vision for One Museum Place, in which contemporary art interventions are imagined defining the district, as well complimenting the pioneering spirit of Hines as a key player in its growth. Through the UAP’s curation of a strong regional artist selection, artistic interventions have a visual reflector of place, curated and culturally relevant for an iconic Shanghai locale.

Selected artists were asked to draw inspiration from Shanghai’s city landscapes and briefed to develop new concepts for a series of specific sites for the project. This resulted in the commissioning of Chinese Master Ding Yi’s two cast aluminium & LED facade canvases (1.), and Zheng Lu’s three office lobby wall pieces cast in nickel, brass, and copper (3.), all delivered by UAP.

Chinese Master Zhan Wang (2.) and Zheng Chongbin (4.) were additionally commissioned for two lobby pieces to highlight the arrival experience of the office development.
