#Reclamation Reki, Paraha, Nakas 2022
AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND
Reclamation, 2020 at Artspace Sydney was created collaboratively with Taloi Havini's Hakö clan members. The sculptural works lean and suspend into themselves as a form of collective map-making. Underlying the ephemeral installation of cane and earth, are questions about the ways in which we relate within temporal spaces; how borders are defined and claimed as well as the value of impermanence and embodied knowledge over fixed historical understandings.
Reclamation Reki, Paraha, Nakas 2022 produced three selected elements from the original Artspace installation as cast bronze artefacts, giving the original artworks a longevity and robustness for permanent display. These three works were displayed and subsequently acquired by the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki
UAP cast several repeating lengths of cane that were then used to in multiple configurations to create three unique forms. The artist worked closely with UAP workshop team to finish the artworks with copper wire and patina. This is an example of UAPs flexibility to work within tight budgets to help artist realise high quality outcomes.
