#Being Swallowed by the Milky Way
BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA
Lindy Lee, a celebrated Australian artist, draws deeply from her Chinese heritage. She explores the spiritual traditions of Taoism and Zen Buddhism to create profoundly meditative works. Her art bridges human existence and the vast, unknowable cosmos, inviting viewers to contemplate their place within the universe.
Her latest masterpiece, Being Swallowed by the Milky Way, is a stunning representation of the universe's perpetual cycles and interconnectedness. This 8-tonne, 8-meter tall cast bronze sculpture, installed at the Queen's Wharf development in Brisbane, Australia, features approximately 25,000 perforations resembling stars, creating a mesmerizing, almost translucent effect. The sculpture is illuminated from within by 24 small Xenian Econsense TROV L50 lights, casting a soft, ethereal glow that symbolizes cosmic unity and the infinite connectivity of all things.
Crafted in our Brisbane foundry, the sculpture features a non-directional brushed bronze finish, treated with Everbrite to ensure long-lasting durability against the elements. The partnership with lighting experts and the client's design team allowed for precise attention to detail, ensuring the flawless integration of the artwork into its setting.
Being Swallowed by the Milky Way is not just an artwork but a captivating experience, inviting viewers to feel enveloped by the vastness of the cosmos. Our expertise in fabrication and installation, combined with the close collaboration with Lindy Lee, ensured that every aspect of the sculpture, from its intricate perforations to its internal lighting, was meticulously executed, resulting in a truly awe-inspiring piece.
In essence, the torus form is the unity of opposites, always turning in on itself creating infinite cycles of birth and death - the shape of time itself
