Yioryios Papayioryiou
#Points of Intersection (PS419)
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
Following the development by UAP of the site-wide Public Art Masterplan for Walker Corporation’s distinguished Parramatta Square development, Yioryios Papayioryiou was curated into the project to respond to the site, and deliver an artwork that would become an identifiable landmark and form part of the arrival experience.
Reflecting on his experiences of constructed space, Yioryios Papayioryiou works with aluminium and paint to bend, fold, contort and manipulate forms in an exercise which plays between both painting and sculpture. UAP’s design and delivery team assisted Papayioryiou to design and engineer an artwork suitable for the public realm.
Papayioryiou’s work Points of Intersection (PS419) is strongly influenced by the artist’s experience of the surrounding space, specifically the strong, angled geometries of the 4 Parramatta Square (4PS) building. The artwork provides a gestural response that captures the dynamism of the building through the use of colour and form.
Defined by its confident colours and bold lines, Points of Intersection (PS419) is a sculptural composition that constantly transforms and reveals itself in front of the moving viewer, mirroring the transformation inherent to Parramatta’s urban landscape.
