Brookfield Place

#Brookfield Place Public Art Strategy

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, Brookfield Place is located adjacent to the historic Wynyard Park and Wynyard Station, one of Sydney’s busiest commuter nodes. The iconic Brookfield Place is set to play the leading role in transforming the civic heart of the city, delivering unparalleled transit connections with aspirational commercial spaces and high-end retail offerings.

UAP was invited by Brookfield Property Partners to fulfill the role of Public Art Consultant. UAP prepared a Public Art Strategy, incorporating research into the site history and future aspirations to inform the curatorial vision ‘A place like no other’ and the emergent curatorial themes of ‘discover,’ ‘transform,’ and ‘connect.’

Following the development of the Public Art Strategy, UAP developed artist shortlists for the two public art opportunities at Brookfield Place: the lobby wall and pedestrian thoroughfare.

Following the artist shortlisting, the Client selected artist Tracey Deep to create an artwork for the Lobby space. The artwork Roots speaks to the natural heritage of Sydney, forging a sense of place while simultaneously complementing the architecture in a refined expression.

Acclaimed French artist Charles Petillon was chosen to design a site-specific artwork for the intersecting pedestrian thoroughfares of Brookfield Place. His concept Magnetism comprises of cloud-like sphere clusters, seeming to float effortlessly in space.

The works were delivered from curation through to design, fabrication, and installation by UAP in collaboration with the artists.
