Tom Claassen

Tom Claassen, a Dutch artist born in 1964, has been creating public artworks for over 25 years, gaining national and international recognition. His pieces often occupy public spaces, such as his famous family of elephants along the A6 motorway in Almere and his large sitting men at Schiphol Airport.

Claassen's sculptures blur the line between culture and nature. His public installations are exaggerated in size and proportions yet inviting. However, the inviting softness is made from bronze, while sculptures that might seem uninviting are crafted from rubber.

Other works are located at Castle Nijenhuis (Heino), in Utrecht, Apeldoorn, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Tilburg and Vlaardingen. For example, many people know the group of five elephants at the intersection of the A6 and A27 at Almere or the two sitting figures at Schiphol.
