#Curatorial Vision: Park Sydney
厄斯金维尔,澳大利亚
Located within the Ashmore Industrial Estate of Erskineville, Sydney, Park Sydney is one of the largest urban renewal projects in the City. A joint venture between Greenland Australia and GH Australia, the Park Sydney project will transform a 6.9 hectare parcel of land into a beautiful new mixed-use development, featuring modern design and best practice in sustainable development. Set to become the new heart of Erskineville’s thriving, closeknit local community, Park Sydney will be bursting with character, art and culture.
UAP were engaged from the outset of the project to develop a Public Art Masterplan, which outlined a vision for the commissioning of public art across Park Sydney Erskineville aligned to each stage of the development timeline. The Curatorial Vision ‘New Grounds for Creativity’ draws on Erskineville’s penchant for puns to define a new place for community that celebrates self-expression, creative individualism and local character. Supported by a series of stage-specific curatorial themes, Park Sydney’s public art program will feature a range of eclectic and inclusive art interventions from the intimate to the iconic.
UAP produced a curated shortlist of artists for selection by the project team to proceed to concept design and commissioning. Sydney-based First Nations artist Lucy Simpson was selected to conceptualise each of the artworks across the Park Sydney Erskineville development as a cohesive, site-wide public art trail.
The first artwork of the series, Bawuwan, comprises three sculptural forms that represent the banksia seedpod, nestled amongst a pocket of parkland as a celebration of First Nations knowledge systems and complex cultural land management practices.
